Materials Acquisition Update from Katy White
This is an update on the October 10 Announcement, “Baker & Taylor Cease Operations.”
Baker & Taylor
As we reported in the October 23 NJLA Organizational Update:
- If you have questions about existing deposits, credits, or funds with Baker & Taylor please email LibraryClaims@baker-taylor.com and include your library name, account number and other relevant information.
- Libraries with their own Axis360/Boundless collection: Contact Christina Bahnsen, B&T Onboarding Manager, as soon as possible.
We encourage you to read the entire update.
Amazon
Thanks to everyone who has helped NJLA make our first year of partnership with Amazon Business Prime a success. Your feedback has made the program better, and we’re committed to improving it. For instance, I’m scheduling a walkthrough with a library director and Tarita Murray, who is leading Amazon’s Books for Libraries program. If you have solutions, or even frustrations, that you want to share, please get in touch with me at kwhite@njla.org or (609) 482-1282, ext. 1001.
Brodart
Brodart’s focus remains on supporting existing customers and libraries with shelf-ready needs. Once they move beyond this initial post-Baker & Taylor (B&T) influx of new accounts, they will reconnect with accounts that don’t require shelf ready services.
At present, they are prioritizing accounts that require Flex and Compleat Book Serv (CBS), Brodart’s version of B&T’s Customized Library Services-level cataloging and processing (shelf ready services; not simple processing like spine labels or jackets). These Brodart services have a $150,000 minimum commitment. Consortia whose member libraries, or groups of libraries, that share the same processing and cataloging specifications can engage with Brodart as well, as long as the total annual commitment is over $150,000.
As a reminder, McNaughton Lease Services are available to standalone libraries, library systems, and consortia. Plans include Adult, Young Adult, Graphic Novels, and Universal, which includes children’s titles. The minimum plan is 40 titles per month, with an approximate annual spend of $10,000 (just under $21 per book, which includes cataloging and processing). They also offer Purchase Plus subscription plans. Brodart currently has the ability to quickly onboard new customers and deliver materials in both the Purchase Plus and McNaughton product lines.
Other Vendors
Please note there are several other vendors who can support you with materials acquisitions. For brevity, we have not included their contact information here. Please refer to our October 10 update for contact information and details.
